De Bellis Antiquitatis, or DBA for short, traces its roots to Phil Barker and an experimental demonstration game featuring Romans and Celts presented at a Society of Ancients conference in 1988. The demonstration was well received and precipitated a two page presentation entitled 'De Bellis Societatis Antiquorem' at a subsequent 1989 conference. In 1990, DBA was published, and the rest, as it is said, is history.Phil Barker has had a long association with WRG rules and that association is evident in DBA. However, DBA is an attempt to streamline play and yet retain the feel of generalship in an ancient or medieval battle, a somewhat new approach to those eras. The number of figures required has been drastically reduced, most 'armies' being 50 or fewer figures. 25mm battles can be carried out in an area 4 foot by 4 foot square. For the wargammer with a tight budget or a space retraint, DBA deserves a close look.

Warrior offer  a range of 45 DBA armies and 72 matched opponent combinations in 25mm, which offer the beginner or the experienced wargammer the opportunity to experience DBA games at a bargain price.
